Online consumers in Asia Pacific to enjoy their online shopping therapy with confidence. As published previously, 89 percent of respondents in the Asia Pacific region claimed to have shopped online in the last 12 months.

Respondents from South Korea (94 percent), China (92 percent) and Singapore (85 percent) was found to be the most confident in using payment cards for online purchases. Results monitors also found that nearly nine out of ten respondents (89 percent) have made purchases online in the last 12 months.

Over the past 12 months, respondents’ satisfaction ratings of security in online shopping payments reached 62 percent, higher than other factors such as quality of product information (59 percent) and quality of service (57 percent).

“With online browsing, Visa Monitor indicates that the security of online payment system has the influence to encourage consumers to shop,” said Mohamad Hafidz, eCommerce Visa regional head for Asia Pacific, in a statement December 19, 2009.

Compared to the year 2008, nearly half of respondents (48 percent) admitted often shop online than last year, along with the increased security of payment. China leads with 68 percent, followed by India (58 percent) and South Korea (57 percent). Nearly two-thirds (65 percent) of respondents said they would increase the frequency of its online shopping if the security of online transactions increases.
